Your responsibilities

The purpose of the position as an assistant professor is to provide the teacher with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for a position as a lecturer.

The position is a qualification position for 5 years, of which approximately 40% of the time is for research and supervision, and the remaining part is for teaching and administrative tasks. In addition, funding is included to recruit a doctoral student (4 years).

At Linköping University, mathematical analysis is taught in all engineering programs, and we offer courses at both the bachelor's and master's levels.

Regarding research, the primary task for this position is to conduct high-quality activities that strengthen the department's existing research environment in analysis.

As an assistant professor in mathematical analysis, you will teach at both undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as supervise (if needed) bachelor's and master's theses. The work may also include course development and course responsibility.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. We primarily seek candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree within the last five years.

For this position, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency, followed by pedagogical proficiency, and then other skills that are assessed as equivalent.

Furthermore, the potential to develop independence as a researcher is very important for this position, and therefore you are expected to comment on this aspect in your application and specifically describe research initiated after your doctoral studies.

Since teaching and research are conducted in both Swedish and English, you must demonstrate the ability to teach and conduct research in English, and it is expected that you will be able to teach in Swedish within two years.

Your workplace

At the Department of Mathematics (MAI), both education and research are conducted. The research covers a wide range of areas from pure mathematics to interdisciplinary applications in technology, natural sciences, economics, and subject didactics. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages innovation and is responsive to current conditions and needs.

This position, within the subject of mathematical analysis, is located at the Department of Analysis and Didactics (ANDI) - Linköping University. (The department also includes the field of mathematics didactics.)

About the position

Employment type: Fixed-term employment. This position has a duration of 5 years.

Extent: 100%

Start date: By agreement.

According to the Higher Education Ordinance, an assistant professor may be employed indefinitely, but for a maximum period of at least four and at most six years as determined by the university before employment. An employment may be renewed, but for a maximum of two years in total, if due to the assistant professor's illness, parental leave, or other special reasons additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the employment.

An assistant professor should be promoted to university lecturer after application if the candidate is qualified for a position as a university lecturer and is deemed suitable for such a position according to the assessment criteria established by the university.
